Southmoreland Security Patrol

We need to raise an additional $1,000 monthly to maintain our program, please contribute monthly and quarterly to our security program. Your monthly and quarterly sunscription checks can be sent to our P.O. box address here.

We're proud to have the KCPD SWAT Team call Southmoreland their second home. We hire off-duty KCPD SWAT officers to patrol Southmoreland for 16 hours per week (four 4-hour shifts). Below are the latest results. Please consider contributing quarterly to our patrol - they're making Southmoreland a safer place!

For emergencies always dial 911, and always report ALL crimes to the KCPD. The KCPD only schedules patroling activity according to the history of events that are called-in!

Recent Highights

Tues 1/22/08 :
At 2339 hours PO Hewitt and Sgt. Crump were conducting surveillance in the neighborhood. They heard a dispatched call for service regarding a suspicious subject prowling vehicles in a parking lot near 41st and McGee. A short time later they located the suspect in the 4300 block of McGee. When they attempted to conduct a ped check on this suspect, he fled on foot between the houses. They chased him almost two blocks and caught him behind 4335 Oak. The suspect resisted arrest, but was taken into custody.

Week of 11/19/07: Officer Truman was working off-duty for the neighborhood when he heard a dispatched call for service regarding car prowlers in the 4000 block of Locust.  He immediately responded to the area and observed a suspicious black male prowling around parked cars.  As soon as the suspect noticed the police car he fled on foot between the houses.  Officer Truman engaged in a foot pursuit of the suspect and was able to catch him.  Officer Truman located the vehicle which the suspect had broken out a wing window in, and then used a screw driver to “pop” the steering column, getting ready to steal it.  Officer Truman was then able to track down the owner of the car who was obviously unaware that someone was trying to steal her car. Officer Truman no doubt prevented a stolen auto from occurring and because of his good police work the suspect was booked for felony tampering.
